AB  - The article studies the legacy of La Boétie towards libertines authors, by confronting the Discours de la Servitude Volontaire and two of La Mothe Le Vayer’s texts. From the references, sometimes veiled, to La Boétie’s text, we can retrace how the libertine commits to key themes of the Discours. The foundation of political organization is at stake, since Le Vayer hesitates between refusing legitimacy to politics and endorsing a form of contractualism that accepts the idea of “natural right.”
