AB  - In 1679, Beverland identified original sin with intercourse. In the same year, Leeuwenhoek’s published his descriptions of spermatozoa. Both are presumed to have excelled the boundaries of decency. However, as early as 1660 there was a lively discourse at the Leiden medical faculty, focusing on the anatomy and functions of genitals, intercourse and lust, visualized in prints, cabinets, and anatomical handbooks in the vernacular.
