AB  - Criticizing the place reserved for reason in classical thought, Montaigne proceeds to a revaluation of the imagination, a cognitive function that man shares with animals. Refusing abstract rationality, he proposes a new theory of knowledge, conceived as an interpretative digestion of reality. But this powerful "fantasy" can sometimes wander, so it is necessary to train it, his gnoseology necessarily implying a new conception of education.
