AB  - This article refutes the pyrrhonian and fideist interpretation of Pierre Bayle, emphasizing the rationalism undeniably present in his work: in his Pensées diverses, where logical argument demonstrates that astrology is a ridiculous superstition, and in Commentaire philosophique, where he maintains that there are rationally obvious and unmistakable ethical principles. On the sole question of the compatibility of faith with reason, Bayle’s positions evolved over the course of his work.
