AB  - Asceticism plays a central role in Russian thought, and the nineteenth century is no exception. Indeed, asceticism has been the focus of an ongoing debate on its status and its goals, debate across all groups from official theologians to the Symbolists through the Nihilists of the 60s. All converge on an idea : asceticism is a way of truth. And this long debate show the originality of Russian thought of asceticism : to have detached the asceticism from the idea of revelation and to have link it to the idea of creation.
