AB  - On the basis of this description of a metamorphosis, Christine de Pizan explains how she overcame a severe crisis and became a writer. To assume a “masculine” role provides her with a particular sensitiveness towards adversaries and potential allies. She sets up a “pantheon” peopled by representatives of an ideal masculinity, while at the same time banishing her adversaries to the hell-hole of misogyny. This construction of a lieu de mémoire for the “second sex” (the masculine sex) is also part of the foundation of her utopian work The City of Ladies.
