AB  - After Carlo Goldoni’s Le Théâtre comique, a play in which the figure of the author does not appear on stage, Pietro Chiari sketches him in Le Poète comique (1755) as a Venetian exile who practices his art in secret, as a persecuted dramatist. Goldoni creates with Les Mécontents a bad poet in whom the censors recognize Chiari. As for the anti-reformer Carlo Gozzi, his Les Joutes théâtrales brings together and ridicules the two rivals and their supporters.
