Yet the phenomenon of self-translation remains to be explored. Jean Zullart wrote an account of his journey in Italian, with the intention of publishing it in Rome on his return; he then translated it into French. Jean du Blioul started the descriptive passages from scratch when he translated it into French in a deliberately impoverished version. Self-translation is also a rewriting.
