AB  - The first eclogue sent by Dante Alighieri to Giovanni del Virgilio (Corrispondenza) is read here as an unusual defence of the language adopted for his poema sacro. The interactions between characters are decoded through the medieval allegory of the bucolic genre: herdsmen, pastures, and goats breathe life into a caustic critique of the new Italian Latinophile cenacles, celebrating the vibrant eulogy of a literary operation which recounts the ultimate ends of humankind in everyday language.
