TY - ECHAP A1 - Wessler, Éric TI - La Violence comme métaphore de l'écriture dans l'œuvre de Beckett T3 - Samuel Beckett, n° 4 in La Revue des lettres modernes DO - 10.15122/isbn.978-2-8124-5023-5.p.0263 SN - 978-2-8124-5023-5 SP - 263 EP - 281 AB - Violence in Beckett is linked to the constitution of the human personality (filiation, sexuality). Around 1955, it undergoes a profound change in its treatment, as does the author’s style. This coincidence reveals that violence and writing reflect each other ; since Beckett ascribes to literary creation the function of rehearsing, through scenes of violence, the problematic acquisition of a personality via the gaze of others : literature palliates the failure to accede to the order of wisdom.
