AB  - In this article, we reflect on the new interest Huysmans shows, though the character of Durtal, in plain chant, from the Prose des Trépassés that accompanies Gilles de Rais in Là-bas to the ceremonies described in L’Oblat. Beyond his sensory and affective perception, what would Huysmans have known about the Gregorian chant through reading books and his annotated Ordo 1900? Last, we examine the way in which the skilful author succeeds in literally transcribing Durtal’s aesthetic experience.
