The study is based on the records and photographs of his stay in Japan between 1891 and 1894. Subsequently, he becomes a specialist in the « Japanese Alps » through his scientific involvement in learned societies. But the mountains remain for him a spiritual romantic environment, especially in Japan, country still rooted in ancestral traditions.
