AB  - The article traces the origin of the prejudices attached to travel narrative, it examines the status of narration and description in this literature and the meaning of its geographic aspect. The analysis of some contemporary narratives helps to reevaluate the opposition between fact and fiction, that is often advanced for the delegitimization of the genre. It argues for a generic reconfiguration recognizing the literary character of the travel narrative.
