AB  - In rejecting abstraction, Beckett called into question the promotion of a unified and harmonious vision of existence. However abstraction can also be conceived as touching on both an irreducible ‘obstacle’ and the materiality of chaos. The process of subtraction and simplification, in composition, aims at this real in language. Geometrical motifs point to the imaginary register, testifying to the weight of an ideal, but they also enter the sphere of a singular enunciation.
