AB  - This study analyses the role played by the French Revolution in the structure of ­Sandeau’s novellas. Although it is often sidestepped, this event sparked a dichotomy in the ­author’s work between the mentalities of an aged aristocracy and those of a bourgeoisie wishing to take over from it. This drove the novelist to represent not only the most striking historical facts but also the customs of the epoch.
