AB  - This contribution is concerned with how, in the early nineteenth century, propaganda literature and novels employed pedagogies of money to resolve social questions. It uses the “Caisses d’épargne” as an example, an institution founded in 1818 to allow “impoverished workers” to save their money and protect themselves from risk. Social observers thus performed a moral reading of pauperism, or the poverty of workers.
