Before contributing to the Courrier français (1836-1842), he worked with Ludwig Börne on La Balance (1836). His social thought cannot be disassociated from his literary Romanticism, and his literary conceptions are social above all. His case is exemplary of the intellectual moment in which, contrary to a disembodied political economy, social and literary thought reflected each other in the common project to “write from the heart”.
