AB  - Claude Mermet was a teacher, poet, and translator from Italian, and published La pratique de l’orthographe françoise in Lyon in 1583. First, he proposes a method of learning French language, and then proceeds with advice on the material aspects of correspondence before finishing with a series of model letters. This work was not aimed at secretaries and professional writers but rather a wider readership, made up of young people and men and women of all social classes.
