AB  - The Tractatus theologico-politicus examines the question of the salvation of the ignorant according to Christ's announcement. To this end Spinoza makes a Cartesian distinction between two types of certainty. The meaning of that distinction must be distinguished from the meaning it has in Descartes’s philosophy and such a distinction is vital to understand in what sense the salvation of the ignorant is compatible with Spinoza's system.
