AB  - In the numerous French novels and narratives of the immediate post-war period which deal with WWII, there is a markedly confrontational attitude towards literature. It was considered unable to represent the conflict. The experience of war stood in opposition to the conventional image of false and elitist literature. This article examines the double movement by which the idea of literature suffered a crisis, and the “popular” infiltrated narratives of the period.
