AB  - This article retraces the birth of a branch of archeology in France, building archeology, which is contributing to a renewal of the history of construction. Using examples from digs, it differentiates archeology underground from archeology that consists of analyzing buildings in all their dimensions. Archeological methods are renewed and inquiries enhanced. The monument is no longer analyzed but each of its constructive units are, leading to the possible analysis of humans at work and their technological behavior.
