Maternus’ Matheseos libri are among the sources of Pontano’s astrology, this paper focuses on his turning Cicero’s polemics in De divinatione into an apology and examines the humanist’s commentary on pseudo-Ptolemy’s Centiloquium in which the astral influence is considered the source of both natural divination and poetic inspiration. An edition and an Italian translation of Pontano’s Commentaries on ps.-Ptolemy’s Centiloquium I and IV are given in appendix.
