AB  - Paul J. Smith presents the Epitheta (1620) by Anthoni Smyers, a Dutch adaptation of Maurice de La Porte’s Epithetes. The contribution studies the pedagogical objectives of the Dutch collection as well as its linguistic, poetic, political, and religious specificities vis-à-vis its French model. Its reception in Holland is studied with the help of some examples of the book itself, annotated by hand. A French translation of Smyters’ preface is included as an appendix.
