AB  - Based on a study of Philippe Mousket’s Chronique rimée, the article shows that the author, rarely considered to be a serious historian by modern-day critics, carefully constructed the historicity of his account through the use of external references. These are sometimes deceptive, sometimes simple postures, but are, on other occasions, surprisingly accurate. Their employment reveals an aspect of the medieval approach to history very different from our own.
