TY - ECHAP A1 - Loach, Judi TI - Les origines sociales de Claude-François Menestrier jésuite célèbre né à Lyon - Et « l’élitisme jésuite » en France provinciale au xviie siècle T3 - Rencontres M1 - 79 DO - 10.15122/isbn.978-2-8124-1766-5.p.0261 SN - 978-2-8124-1766-5 SP - 261 EP - 284 AB - This study replaces the little-contested genealogies of Claude-François Menestrier with an examination of the quarter in which he grew up, and questions the legend of his aristocratic ancestry by suggesting more working-class origins. This allows for a re-evaluation of the social origins of those who frequented the Jesuit colleges as well as those who entered the Society of Jesus. Social, even economic, history is thus a crucial resource for those attempting to reconsider areas relating to the history of mentalities.
