However, he recommended revolutionary measures for the time in his report on opera prepared in 1967-1968 in partnership with Maurice Béjart and Pierre Boulez. His resignation, on 31 May 1968, signalling his opposition to the government of General de Gaulle, provoked the abandonment of the project. Ideas from this text would be taken up again by successive governments many years later.
