AB  - Cythère assiégée (1759-1775) illustrates Gluck’s interest in the universalism concept so dear to Enlightenment thinkers and so hardly fought between French and German men of letters. Gluck’s compositional approach wants to be the heir of German thought in favor of adapting universal models to strengthen the plurality of identities. However the reform whose target is building a language “unique to all nations” also supports a French position that seeks remarkable and unique models to imitate.
