AB  - Carlo Goldoni attributes the success of La Pamela–a comedy based on the famous novel by Samuel Richardson (1750)–to its novelistic aesthetic. By looking at the various contexts of production and staging of La Pamela, it can be reread in the light of that aesthetic, which at the time was beginning to change the way theatre was made. Readers, audiences, impresarios, and actors played an equal role in the production and performance of the play, making it an exceptional piece of work.
