AB  - This article looks at the development of the collection of Stéphane Mallarmé’s translations of Edgar Allan Poe’s poems, showing that the French writer’s choices adhere to an interpretive method that prefigured the project of the Livre. The writer’s approach was shaped by composition and translation choices that sought to distance it from the original text and Baudelaire’s translations. We focus on the impact these choices had on Mallarmé's resulting translation.
