AB  - Whereas virtue ethics is not dominant in contemporary normative ethics, it is actually the privileged approach in Western armed forces. A soldier meets ethical dilemmas according to patterns that are typical of virtue ethics, focusing on personality rather than the action itself. An analysis of the way in which soldiers deal with the ethical pitfalls of their profession can lead to a breakthrough on some difficulties in contemporary virtue ethics: the application problem, cultural relativism, and the tension between the just and the good.
