A same sort of philological fiction is proposed by Chevillard in L’Œuvre posthume de Thomas Pilaster. By juxtaposing the positivity of attested knowledge and its bizarre (mis)uses, he detects a murderous tension in the practices of philological knowledge. This is doubtless the trap of a novel which undermines all possible forms of reception by constantly undermining the very act of reading.
