By doing so when interpretating the Ovidian myths, the rewriter of the Z version of the Ovide moralisé takes part in the debate on the Roman de la Rose. Especially in his own interpretation of Pygmalion, the rewriter defends marital love against the opinion of Jean de Meun that the original author of the Ovide moralisé uses as a source text for his translation.
