AB  - This article examines the support provided by the Venetians of Constantinople to the Byzantines when the city was besieged by Mehmed II. The political choices of the most important members of this community suggest a large degree of autonomy vis-à-vis orders from the capital. The boundary between autonomy and disobedience therefore seems thin.
