AB  - This contribution sheds light on changes in the recruitment of academics to join the Lusignan State apparatus and the Cypriot Latin Catholic Church. Examining the education of island elites shows the preponderant role of academics who passed through Bologna, Montpellier, Paris, Toulouse and Padua after 1393. Obtaining a degree, which guaranteed a career in the Cypriot government, allowed family lines of indigenous origin to be integrated into the elite.
