Moreover, the transmission of Dharma took place largely through the Chinese sūtra, with an enormous work of translation that played a central role. The Japanese language of the time, unable to deal with the complex thought of Buddhism, had to adopt a strategy called kanbun kundoku a peculiar mix of Japanese and Chinese languages which led to a bilingual text of a strongly hybrid nature.
