AB  - The translation of Maurice Merleau-Ponty’s Le Visible et l’invisible requires a thorough knowledge of the author’s philosophy. A word like salience is a thematic icon, and as such, plays an essential role in his system of thought. It is the appearance of form. Its Polish translation as ciążenie znaczeń, “gravitation of meanings”, is not only absurd in itself but detracts from the understanding of the whole philosophical text.
