A set of architectural elements, including the statue of the first king of the Belgians, celebrate the constitution and its original authors. At the end of the First World War, the column becomes the site of military remembrance. It is home to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Beginning in 1970, the federalization of the state blurs the institutional image of the column further. Is it possible to reconcile these varied representations?
