AB  - Colonisation has produced new societies in the West Indies, whose experience of violence and of the slave trade represents a fundamental element. How can one describe the origins of such a context? This article provides some answers through a narrative, a symbolic and linguistic analysis of the two novels, aiming to show that they can be read as narrations of origins in that they refer to a new conception of the relationships among individuals and among communities.
