AB  - This article addresses the writing I in nineteenth-century travelogues about Finland by British writers Selina Bunbury, Robert Edgar Hughes and Edward Rae. The writing I is understood as a persona whom the writer creates while communicating about travelling with the reader. Through these personas, the writers show they are firmly anchored in British culture. Their travelogues tell us as much about British self-perception in the nineteenth century as they do about the country they visit, Finland.
