AB  - Based on the role that the novel gives to the body and its ailments, caused by melancholy in particular, Le Page disgracié can be categorized as a comic story. But the way Tristan mixes the topoï of the sentimental novel with medical images is peculiar to him. A close parallel study of Le Page disgracié and the tragicomedy La Folie du Sage allows us to observe how this hybridization of discourses, tied to the pleasure found in variety and the spectacular, leads to a deep renewal of the novel’s style.
