A metapoetic reflection on « the sun, sleep and death » comes outof this micro-cycle within Amours jaunes. This triad seeks to discredit the romantic eloquence and the painters who exhibited their works in 1836. Italy, land of exile for the poet, and for many other strangers, welcomes his refined thought about freedom, and in contrast about prison, as a metaphor for women. Does the poet overcome these antithesis and reach the light? Might men’s bitter solitude be the only way to reach it?
