AB  - A psychological approach makes it possible to reconsider de Staël’s role in the emergence of reflection on the idea of Europe: this shifts the idea of Europe away from the question of otherness and foreignness and onto the interior stage. De Staël, writing Corinne and De l’Allemagne while crossing borders, also considers the issues of identity raised by these movements, and Italy seems to lend itself well to this modification of itself and its history. Is it not the homeland of archaeology and memory?
