AB  - Anglophone literary avant-garde circles took an interest in Lautréamont at the end of the nineteenth century, and a partial translation of Les Chants de Maldoror was on offer as early as 1914, but three quarters of a century had to pass before a translation of his complete works, by Alexis Lykiard, finally became available. This article presents the first chapter of this story, ending with the attempt by the poet Richard Aldington.
