AB  - Peau d'âne, the tale rewritten by Charles Perrault, functions like a distorting mirror of medieval courts: the taboo of incest between aristocrats, the obsession for precious fabrics and the focus on gold coins recall that, during the Grand Siècle, a lot of people were in the same time fascinated and disgusted by such clichés coming from the past. If the literary sources make possible to establish the origin of many significant elements of the tale, the historian Perrault necessarily drew some of them from the "black legend" of the Middle Ages courts’.
