AB  - The Mesnagier de Paris opens with a long lesson on conjugal duties which is based on numerous examples. This collection includes a chapter on obedience that contains, among others, the famous story of Griselidis and a tale taken from the Roman des Sept sages and known under the title “Tentamina”. Their comparative analysis highlights how the author of the Mesnagier subtly manages to use exemplary narrative. It also shows how the layout of embedded stories reflects the harshness of his matrimonial doctrine.
