AB  - In his novels, Drieu la Rochelle represents the decadence of Catholicism, which he also analyzes in his essays. This collapse of the Catholic religion thwarts its literary vocation, insofar as art in general, literature in particular, constitutes, according to him, the superior expression of religious feeling. It is nevertheless in an imaginary informed by Christianity that Drieu finds the resources to redefine both the meaning of writing and its form.
