AB  - In 1824, after a wide and free rewriting, Chastenet de Puységur publishes a new version of the tale by Charles de Villers, Le Magnétiseur amoureux (1787). Evidence of the intense debate on the animal magnetism in France at the turn of the Enlightenment, this novel, unusual in its development, offers a rare insight on a rich and controversial imaginary. In germ there are the declensions of the nineteenth-century literary production deploying the survival of the legacy of the Enlightenment.
