AB  - The survey of creole studies in Germany is limited to creoles based on Romance languages published from the 1970s onward: comprehensive descriptions, dictionaries, studies of particular subjects. Studies produced by members of the Freiburg Sonderforschungsbereich « Übergänge und Spannungsfelder zwischen Mündlichkeit und Schriftlichkeit » are of particular importance for creoles developing a written code. The last chapter is devoted to the discussion about the origin of creole languages.
