AB  - The sources of Romance studies in Germany are the magistri linguarum, studies of late Latin, and the needs of teaching practice in schools. The methods in Romance studies were first marked by historical questions. New orientations addressing more modern issues only came later, such as structuralism, the reception of Martinet’s works or the revolution created by E. Coseriu.
