We will review two cases from Spanish in which prepositional phrases are involved, and how they are dealt with in a number of monolingual dictionaries. Firstly, we will examine some locative adverbs, like delante ‘in front’, which can take a complement introduced by the preposition de ‘of’; secondly, we will study a group of phrases, like a fin de (‘in order to’), that could be accounted for as conjunctive or prepositional phrases. In each case, we will see how these sequences are presented in the dictionaries analyzed (what information they provide, mainly about grammatical category), what grammar can say about the characteristics and grammatical categorization of these elements and, consequently, what information grammar can offer in order to enrich dictionaries.
